After the Birth of my grandson, I was in awe of all the little knitted and crocheted baby hats that are donated to the hospital, but u was also told that sometimes they run short. So in an effort to help pay it forward, I have decided I am going to make a few every so often and keep a box ready to post when or if I hear of any hospital needing some. Sometimes on Social media like Facebook, we will see some NHS midwifery suites create a request so there is never a shortage of place to send them.
SO I have started a box to add to little hats booties and I will share some of my nice easy knit newborn hat patterns.
I don’t really knit, but I learned to knit way before I learned how to crochet as my mum was a beautiful knitter, I am in nowhere near her standard but sometimes if my hand gets sore from crocheting too much I like to get the knitting needles out. )
I use size 4 (UK) needles and any odds of baby double knit yarn I have leftover. (around 25grams for a wee hat
This is stretchy so I will do several sizes at newborn. And the length is great because you just turn up the bottom to suit the size.
This is my mum’s wee pattern that she always used if someone wanted a stretchy ribbed baby beanie hat.
Its truly amazing that recently I found a lot of her scribbled patterns when I was clearing out after she passed away. And some of her little creations that my brothers and I all wore that she made for us. I have promised myself to go through them and as much as is possible I’m going to share these with you. My mother was a creative person and taught me so many crafts I was really lucky to have gotten the crafty bug from her and to be taught so many great things.
