I am just starting out on my Knitting journey , mainly because my hands are very sore with crocheting so much so I find knitting is actually using different muscles! SO I can still indulge in my YARN addiction.

I also have found some little scribbles of very easy basic knit and crochet patterns along with a bag of little newborn crochet cardigans and knit hats for newborns which my mother would sit and work on. Collecting several at a time and donating to our local hospital.

SO I am reviving her patterns, and sharing. I thought knitting was too hard, but actually if you learn how to cast on, cast off,  knit, purl and can decreace (knit 2 together) you can pretty much make many easy knit patterns.

After my daughter giving birth to my little grandson I was overcome with emotion at the little knit and crochet hats made and donated by the community. SO I promised I would in my spare time continue to make some and dontate them to the local hospitals for welcoming newborns into the world.

I had Double knit yarn and 4.00 (UK) straight needles

72 stitches using size 4.00 (UK) straight needles

What size should a newborn baby hat be?

• Preemie 9 inches around
• Newborn 11 inches around
• 0-3 month 13 inches around
• 3-6 month 16 inches around

How many rows do you knit for a baby hat?

I get around 47 ROWS. The Hat Height for a newborn should be 5 inches crochet ot base of ear.

with 4.00 (UK) needles cast on 73 stitches

Starting at Brim

* Knit 1 , Purl 1 * Repeat across to end of ROW ,

*Purl 1, Knit 1* Repeat across to end of ROW,

continue  these 2 ROWS for   3/4 inches  (BRIM)

Knit 1 Row , turn

Purl 1 Row , turn

Continue working in this sequence until your work measures 4/14 inches

ending with a PURL row.
