easy crochet baby cardigan pattern free

This crochet baby cardigan is the next size up from The Original Newborn crochet cardigan pattern Megans Crochet Cardigan Pattern
3+ months Crochet Baby Cardigan in Double Crochet using a 4.50mm hook and DK yarn
Written in US terms

Chest circumference of finished cardigan
This baby cardigan will fit up to a 20 inch Chest.
NOTE: I like to fold over the top corners at the neck.
I found that by the time baby has a vest, top , bib around the underneath of their chin adding a button
and a layer of cardigan was just too bulky at such a delicate area.

Materials you will need
DK yarn. I used Marriners Super Soft Baby Double Knit
4.5mm hook – or hook to meet gauge
Buttons
Gauge 12dc made over 3 inches
Please Read NOTES:
Unless other wise stated, Always work last stitch into the 3rd chain of hook
Advanced crocheters to avoid those pesky holes up the front of the cardigan
made by the chain 3
AT beginning of ROW (Ch1, dc into BASE of ch1 just made = Ch 3 = 1dc )
Working the sleeves, Slip stitch to Join to chain st of First dc, (4th chain from starting chain) Turn
(by doing this you will decrease 1 stitch per round) this saves a dc2together, meaning less bulk under the arms. I also like to change to 1x smaller hook at row 8 of sleeve to help bring it in a bit.

Working on RS of work.
Join Yarn in chosen Main colour or choose a contrasting colour
Choose how many buttons you would like on the garment and make the correct amount of buttonhole loops by Chain 1 and skipping a stitc

For this cardigan I chose 4 buttons and the fold down collar.

Ch1, Single crochet in next 5 sts, ch1, skip 1, (7 sc, ch1 skip 1) Repeat ( ), continue in
single crochet at the TOP of the button band, work 3sc into each corner stitch
working in every stitch, continue working in sc. , at the top of the next neck line.
(If you feel the neck line is too big at this point single crochet 2 together at even spaces,
until you feel it is wide enough.)
Work 3 sc into the last stitch, and continue working in sc along the next side. To the end.
If you wish you can work 3 sc, at the bottom and continue
Working in DC along the bottom length of cardigan.
